Free Instant Messaging Service
I have setup a Jabber instant messenger server on my server that will let people chat, transfer files, and whatever else the server/client supports. It is a real IM service. You install a Jabber (XMPP) compatible client similar to how you would install Skype, AIM, Yahoo, whatever to use an instant messaging service.
One of the free clients is called Pandion. This free instant messaging program will let you connect to my server and make a Jabber instant messaging account. Your friends also can make Jabber instant messaging accounts on my server. Then you all can chat with each other!
The instant messaging connection (to my server) is encrypted (prevent 3rd parties from reading what you send over the Internet) and connects to my server fast!
